Doug;

In your sample, all the 'informix' sessions are the engine. They all have
a flag in the last position - page cleaners, btree cleaner, etc. Session 8
is also part of the engine.
The '-' flag in position 1 for user session 'ascupd' just means that thread
was currently actively running at the time the onstat was run.
It does not by itself mean the thread has 'hung', or anything else other
than it is running at that moment.
As a matter of fact, you would most likely get a specific flag in that
first position if the the thread had 'hung'.

The flags are documented in the Administrator's Reference (this is not the
Administrator's Guide), which you can find in the Answers OnLine CD you get
in class, or in our on-line documentation at:
http://www-3.ibm.com/software/data/informix/pubs/library/

What does it mean when the flag in position 1 is "-"? We cannot find
documentation to indicate what the dash means in position 1 of an onstat
-u.
Some of us believe these are "hanging" and degrade performance.

Anybody know? Did I miss this in one of the reference books?
