You mean the Pretzel?

Historically Lye-Pretzels and other baked things coated with the alakaline solution (the solution is responsible for taste and the brown colour) are mostly found in southern Germany (Baden, Wuerttemberg, Bavaria). If you find them in somewhere else and dig deep, you will almost find that the one starting with lye baked stuff was from southern Germany.

But: Martins translation tools are only valid until noon, the bavarians say: "A white sausage should never here the 12 AM bells ringing!".
