Are you referring to SHMBASE?

The best value is the default 0xC000000. Any higher value will reduce the total shared memory size you can use. The problem will be caused by a DLL loaded at an address which fragments address space - unless there is something which is preventing /3GB from being used.

1. Start IDS with a small configuration which works.
2. Run an onstat command which will hang around, like "onstat -i" for example.
3. Run Process Explorer and configure it to show you DLL load addresses for the onstat.exe process ordered by address. Send the output of this and "onstat -g seg" and your boot.ini contents to the PMR owner (and here if you like).

I have found several discussions of using various addresses for the
instances - even on IBM site they also do not work to fix this (use of
0x20000000L etc) the only one I have found was a discussion regarding
setting it up to 0x50000000 which appears to have worked in a test
environment

In that case as Jack said Process Explorer should help. Will take a look
at the PMR.

Hi,

1.8GB is about your limit unless you use the /3GB boot.ini switch, in
which case you should be able to get around 2.7GB.

> IBM thinks it's a windows bug

Please let me know the PMR number.

BTW If you need more than 2.7GB you might want to consider signing up
for the IDS 64-bit Windows beta.

Subject: Informix Memory error on Windows [9165]

We are having an issue with IDS 9.4 on Windows 2000 and 2003 - if the
memory reaches around 1.8G the "on" commands stop working - we see
everything from "shared memory not initialized" to "cannot connect" with
no other information and the instance is running and if you are on the
system before it reaches this level you can still work.

We have duplicated this by setting either the SHMBASE or buffers up till
we get in the range of 1.8G Memory and it all stops.
IBM thinks it's a windows bug but I have nothing to take to MS. It
sounds like a bug that was in IDS 7

Any Help would be appreciated!

Thanks
JohnAC
