Fedora 3 and IDS 10 UC1 - strange but true???

Site is "testing" IDS 10 UC1 on Fedora 3 before investing in RH Enterprise
and
switching about dozen database from competitor database back to Informix.

I'm getting copy of their sqlhosts file and the onconfig.theirdb file.

In meantime, does this help:
Kernel: Fedora Core: 2.6.9-1.667

1. # env | grep INF
INFORMIXDIR=/usr/informix
INFORMIXSERVER=startdb
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=sqlhosts.startdb

2. (from root homedir)
# oninit
Could not access INFORMIXSQLHOSTS sqlhosts.startdb.
oninit: DBSERVERNAME 'startdb' not in sqlhosts file or sqlhosts file
contents
are damaged.

3. (changing to $INFORMIXDIR)
# onmonitor
Parameters -> Initialization
enter [Esc]

--> Error writing to network

TWO QUESTIONS:

1. Can anyone explain this error when trying to save parameters?
Can't find in any documentation (just ordered and now looking
at the UC1 documentation CD -- available from IBM until 7/9 -- fyi)

2. Is there any limitation in 'cooked' files in Fedora 3? Not a problem in
Red Hat 7.3/8.x/9.x. Will check separately. Using software links in
/dev
to /sbdata01/raw/dsk(1|2|3|4) lasts only for session.
