The method used to migrate your data depends on a number of factors.
dbexport/dbimport is really easy, but will take a long time if the database
is large, plus dbexport will lock your source database during the unload -
something that you may want to preserve data integrity. You can also look
at Art's myexport which will not do the locking.

Otherwise you can look at other ways of exporting and importing the data in
ascii format - such as High Performance Loader (HPL) or external tables, or
other utilities that are available.

The fastest method for you though would likely be to create a 11.50 instance
for your target server, load it with an archive from your source server and
then perform an in-place upgrade there to 12.10.

To move the physical log out of the rootdbs to its own space, create the new
dbspaces and use onparams -p -s <size> -d <newdbspace>

To move the logical logs out of the rootdbs, create the new dbspace(s) and
use onparams -a -d <logdbs> -s <size> : this will create a new logical log
in the new dbspace. Repeat this to add a bunch of logical logs. Run onmode
-l; onmode -c a few times until the current logical log is one of the NEW
spaces (check with onstat -l and look at the chunk number under "begin").
Then drop your old logical logs with onparams -d <lognumber>

Don't worry about updating PHYSFILE, LOGFILES and LOGSIZE in the config file
- that will be taken care of for you.

Setting up a new instance an migrating from an old one, which can be a major
project for a large system with minimal downtime, is a bit much to include
in a post like this.

Hi,

Thank you for your advice. We plan to upgrade our informix version into our
new server (non place migration), Which best method we can use to migrate
data to reduce our downtime? Right now, i think we can use dbexport &
dbimport.

Current rootdbs only 2GB and rigth now we start our db online with min size
for for PHYSFILE, LOGFILES and LOGSIZE configuration.

How to move PHYSFILE and LOGFILES into specific dbspace,

PHYSFILE - move to phydbs
LOGFILES - move to logdbs

and how to increase size for PHYSFILE and LOGFILES, hope u can give sample
command that i can used. After that, did i need to edit config file follow
new PHYSFILE, LOGFILES and LOGSIZE?
