The log you show has three different operations.

1.
2016-01-22 04:00:01 15482 15480 /opt/IBM/informix/bin/onbar_d -b -L 2

This only shows us the start of the process.

2.
2016-01-22 03:57:56* 15433 15431 (-43207) Unable to open connection to
database server: TIMEOUT.
2016-01-22 03:57:56* 15433 15431 Process 15433 received signal 14; process
exiting with code 151 (0x97).

This operation hints a problem, time out, connecting to the database
server. Hence I've asked the status of the instance.

3.
2016-01-22 04:10:01 15532 15530 (-43061) BAR_MAX_BACKUP has been reduced to
5919 to avoid allocating more than SHMTOTAL KB.
2016-01-22 04:10:01 15532 15530 (-43141) The edition of Informix Dynamic
Server currently running restricts the number of parallel backup or restore
processes to 1. Resetting BAR_MAX_BACKUP to 1.

Those are only warnings, seems like Growth Edition doesnt support Parallel
operations.

Try again to issue the backup look to the log only for that operation and
see if the error is the same.

One way to get more info on the subject is to change the BAR_DEBUG and
BAR_DEBUG_LOG. In the 11.70 you can change it by editing the onconfig
directly.

The values for BAR_DEBUG are:
0 = Do not display debugging information.
1 = Print a small amount of information
2 = Print a message every time ON-Bar:
Enters a function.
Exits a function. The message includes the return code for the function.
3 = Print exit and entry information with additional details.
4 = Also print information about ON-Bar parallel operations.
5 = Also print information about:
Objects that are being backed up or restored.
The act_node structure corresponding with the bar_action table.
6 = Print additional information about:
Objects that are being backed up or restored.
The act_node structure corresponding with the bar_action table.
7 = Also print:
Information about the contents of the ins_node structure corresponding with
the bar_instance table.
Information about modifications to the bar_action table.
Information about logical logs and objects that are restored.
SQL statements done on the sysutils database and SQLCODES that were
returned.
8 = Also print page headers of all pages archived and restored. This
setting requires a large amount of space.
9 = Print the contents of:
The bar_ins structure after it was initialized.
The object descriptors that are cold restored.
