Hi Thomas!!

I had experience using IDS 7.31 and Informix Enterprise Gateway with
DRDA 7.31.

Up to EG DRDA 7.31 UD2 you can only Access DB2 for z/Os.
On the version 7.31 xD3, xD4 and xD5 you can also access DB2 for z/Os
and DB2 for Linux, Unix and Windows. I set a distributed system on a
customer in Brasil who uses Informix connecting with both DB2 platforms.

It's very simple to set and works transparent to your system.

The way to use is: after you set the connection with DB2 for z/Os or
LUW, you can create a view on a Informix database pointing to a RDB
(Remote Data Base) name @service. Example:

RDB Name: db2prod
Service name: drda

Create view xpto as
Select * from db2prod@drda:owner:table;

The user who creates a view on the Informix side need to have grant on
the table at DB2 side. (usually Informix user)

You can also Access the table directly . Example:

DB2 side:

Table: tbxpto
Owner: usrabta
RDB Name: db2prod
Service name: drda

Select col a, colb, col c
From db2prod@drda:usrabta.tbxpto
Where <conditions>...

The user who is accessing the table need to have grant on the table at
DB2 side. (usually Informix user)

On Informix side, you only have to grant access to the users who need to
access the view. The good thing is that you don't need to worry with
space, fragmentation, partitions, etc. The bad thing is: If DB2 has been
running on a high workload, this will reflect on the system Who access
data through Informix on DB2. Of course, in this case the problemis not
on Informix

There is a good documentation about Informix Enterprise Gateway with
DRDA available at IBM site.

The product is 100% reliable and transparent, and I recommend. I also
recommend install EG w DRDA 7.31 xD5 or above. (I think the last version
is xD6).

You don't need to worry with your clients. It's transparent. It looks
like the clients are accessing Informix tables. I suggest you only
update your clients if the CSDK version is below than 2.81.

The gateway installation can be done on the same Server that IDS is
running or you can install in another Server, if you prefer.

And Yes... Informix Enterprise Gateway with DRDA can work with IDS 7, 9,
10 and 11. I'm not sure if works with IDS below version 7.

Hello,

I have some questions regarding the connection between IDS 11.5 FC6 and
DB2
z/OS V9.

We have a client application that is accessing some dozen Informix
databases
hosted on two unix servers. The same application is also sending Queries
via
CICS to one of 15 different DB2-Databases.

Our Goal is to implement a solution that makes no use of CICS for the
access
to DB2 z/OS.

Therefore I have read of two possibilities:
- Using the Enterprise Gateway Manager with DRDA (EGM with DRDA)
- Using IDS 11.5 to connect via DRDA to DB2 z/OS.

Our IDS runs on
IDS 11.50.FC6 IBM zSeries SUSE SLES 10

The clients (written in Delphi) connects via Informix Connect to the
IDS-Database.

How can I use IDS to send queries to DB2 z/OS?
Where do I have to install the Data Server Clients?
The Connection from the Client to IDS should not be affected if
possible.

What solution would fit the best in our situation? If you have any idea
or
helpful advices, please let me know it.
