Using onsmsync to expire backup images

I recently noticed that the root dbspace and associated chunks on our production
database were filling up with our onbar activities (in the sysutils database).
Rather than continue to add addition chunks (raw files) I have read that you can use the onsmsync command to removes all backups that are not in the storage manager catalog from the sysutils database and emergency boot file.

We run a policy through netbackup that executes a level 0 archive every night and another policy that moves the data from disk to tape. We only have a two week retension period.

Adding another chunk is not an issue, the current root dbspace is only 290MB.

Can someone advise if it is safe to use onsmsync to clean up or should I continue to add more space.

Will this cause any problems wrt restoring data since we run a full backup every night?
