FW: Down Primary Chunks - Executable.

In Response To: Down Primary Chunks - Executable. (Knox, Ernest)

I wanted to thank Paul Watson from Oninit for his quick response in helping us resolve our production problem.

This application was on an unsupported version of Informix (IDS 7.30.UC3 on SunOS 5.6), and had experienced 9 down chunks.

We ended our EOL extended support contract with IBM, which leaves us open for problems like this, but Paul was able to get in and quickly bring up the chunks and we were back in business.

It took more time to get Paul access to our server, than it did for him to do the work needed.

We are going to keep Paul at the top of our tool box of problem solving contacts. You have to trust someone sometime to get things resolved, so since Paul is on the list, we were able to allow him access on short notice.

We are in the process of upgrade this application, but you know about workload, funding, resources, and other issues tend to intervene, we haven't been able to perform this task at the time of the problem.

It would have taken a large amount of time acquiring hardware, installation, moving the data, and testing to go from one version to another upgraded version, which we did not have.

Thanks,

Failure is not as frightening as regret.
If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.
