Happy New Year to all IIUG members! In 2013 IBM is planning to release Informix 12.1. The best place to acquire a full knowledge of all the new features will be the IIUG Informix Conference in San Diego, CA, USA, April 21-25 2013. There are always many good reasons to attend our conference. Getting up to date with the new release gives this year's conference a huge additional value. I have been participating in the IDS EVP program since IDS10 (when it was still called 9.5 and the EVP was called Beta). It is a great experience and an opportunity to combine helping Informix with getting to know the product. Since version 10 every new version is loaded with new features that we DBAs where longing for. 12.1 has them too. I know many of you are concerned with Informix's visibility in the press. This time I do not share these concerns. The Informix team is getting ready for the new release. During 2013 we will see the results. It is my wish that 2013 will be better than ever for IBM and Informix. More Informix users, more IIUG members, more local user groups, a bigger and better conference, more content for the IIUG Insider, an interesting and profitable year to you all at work and a happy and peaceful year all together. Early bird registration to the 2013 IIUG Informix Conference ends January 17, 2013! The speaker submissions for the 2013 conference were overwhelming. The submissions cover a multitude of topics pertinent to Informix users and administrators, including the many popular Informix features, as well as tried and true "must have" topics like those involving maximizing your system performance while minimizing system downtime. Our speakers for this year's conference are the best our Informix community has to offer and include several new speakers. The IIUG Conference committee completed the review of all submitted presentations to select the very best sessions, Hands-on Labs and tutorials for the 2013 Conference. The sessions we've chosen include interesting and relevant topics that can be used to reinforce your professional skills and keep current in today's changing market. Remember, the 2013 IIUG Conference is not "just for DBAs" anymore: Bring your application developers too! Selected speakers have been notified and once the speakers have confirmed their selection we will post the sessions to the website. Please continue to review the conference website for regular updates. The Conference website will be updated to include details of sessions, hands-on-labs and tutorials. The 2013 IIUG Conference will be our best conference to date. Register on or before January 17, 2013 and save up to $325 USD with an IIUG Membership discount. If you are not currently an IIUG member and want to take advantage of the full early bird price, please join online. There is no fee to become an IIUG member. Becoming a member will increase your Conference savings, and allows access to the Members Only section of the IIUG Website, where downloads of some of the latest IBM Informix products are available, as well as IIUG-only utilities written by DBAs for DBAs. An added bonus for this year's conference registration includes a full day of tutorials on Thursday, April 25th. This is the first conference where the tutorials are included for all paid attendees. So don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to expand your training dollars. Now there is a VERY STRONG rumor this will be the public debut of the V.next version of Informix, V 12.1 code named Centaurs, but due to IBM rules we can neither confirm nor deny such a rumor ;-) so come to the conference and WHEN the rumor proves to be true, you will be the first to hear about it. You will have an opportunity road test the actual 12.1 version in one of our many Hands-on Labs with actual IBM development and support engineers. Need some help with the boss on why you should attend the FIFTH annual IIUG conference — the largest gathering of Informix uses in the world? We created a special Justification Document to help you with this. See you at the Conference!
