Elections for the 2004 IIUG Board Of Directors Have Begun

IIUG is pleased to announce that elections for the 2004 IIUG Board of Directors are taking place on our website from 24 November 2003 through 12 December 2003.

Ten IIUG members are running, one less than the 11 available seats. Because of this, our election consists of the entire candidate list being displayed and the members being asked to vote Yes/No/Abstain on the list as a slate. As it is now traditional, each candidate's election address has been included in the ballot.

The election slate includes four returning candidates and six first time nominees. Geographically, six nominees reside in the USA, while four reside in EMEA (Europe, Middle-East and Africa). We are proud to say this is proportionately the best EMEA representation we have ever had!

For this election, IIUG has developed a brand new process and web-based system. The Nominating Committee, which consists of three non-returning IIUG Board members (James Edmiston, Jerry Hamilton and Hal Maner) will be closely involved during the elections process, providing daily audits of the votes.

We encourage you to vote as your opinion is important for all of us in IIUG. To cast your ballot, your IIUG membership number will be required. This number is usually included in IIUG e-mail correspondence such as the Insider. It will also be included in forthcoming election-specific Alerts.

You can vote now by visiting http://www.iiug.org/iiug/election/2004ballot.html.

Thank you for your support of IIUG!

Ontario Canada Informix User Group (OCIUG) Launched

The inaugural Ontario Canada Informix User Group (OCIUG) meeting was held at the IBM lab in Toronto on Wednesday, November 12. At this full-day session, IBM presented a wide variety of topics, including a technical roadmap for IDS and all other Informix products, an overview of the entire IBM software portfolio, and technical presentations on Information Integrator, Office Connect, Server Studio, and Informix Server Administrator.

During the afternoon session Jacques Roy presented a "T3" - a detailed technical overview of IDS 9.4 and how to use it. The entire session was very well-received by the 60+ attendees!

The session surveys evidenced a high degree of satisfaction and enthusiasm with the event, as shown by the following comments:

  • Bill Smith: "Valuable IBM presentations."
  • Grace He: "The afternoon session (Jacques Roy) was very useful"
  • Anonymous: "Good to have a session on extensibility UDA by Jacques Roy"
  • Stephanette D'Souza: "Jacques made a fun' filled session"

Red Brick User Group Launched in EMEA

The first meeting of the Red Brick User Group in EMEA (Europe-Middle East-Africa) was held at the IBM Forum in Milan on 9 & 10 September 2003. This meeting was held with the intention of the Users gaining a good understanding of what IBM's directions and plans for Red Brick are, and for all attendees have the opportunity to give their input, concerns/issues/problems.

Minutes of the meeting plus key presentations are available on the IIUG website at http://www.iiug.org/resources/articles/rb/rb_milan_sep03.html.

Further details of the Group are available from Gill Dawson, IBM(UK) Ltd (Gill_Dawson@uk.ibm.com)

Software Group Products for Informix - Guide

As mentioned in the prior issue of the Insider, IBM has produced a guide to IBM software products and how they integrate with the Informix portfolio. This document's v1 is now available at the IIUG Member Area in Adobe Acrobat format. An introduction to the document is also available without restrictions at http://www.iiug.org/news/articles/sgp_15nov03.html.

We encourage you to download and review the entire Guide and share it with your management and colleagues as it shows how deeply Informix databases have been integrated with other IBM software products, creating a rich middleware ecosystem anchored on the databases you use today.
