IIUG to Launch Job Board July 1st
A new and free facility has been created to serve as a job and candidate/prospect repository to serve our membership. This facility will depend on the voluntary submission of information by actual members and business partners or job prospect contributors, and will initially be empty until participants contribute information and the facility ramps up to usefulness.
As the old saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. The facility is intended to provide for future job candidates to look for job opportunities posted to the facility as well as give a prospective employer a chance to connect with interested job candidates.
We are hoping the two-way benefits derived from the facility will help it flourish as a popular and useful feature of the IIUG site. It will depend on some initial seeding of information by you, our members. Will the site be mostly a collection of information by job seekers or primarily a listing of opportunities for applying your skills around the world? Only time will tell.
As with any new facility, we are hoping for feedback from our members to refine this facility as it matures. However, to get things rolling it will depend on members contributing job or candidate information. We will report the progress on this facility in upcoming issues of the IIUG Insider and look forward to the success stories in generates.

IIUG Webcast Series Kicks Off 27 June
IIUG is pleased to announce that, in collaboration with IBM, we have scheduled the following webcasts:
- 27 June 2003: IDS/WebSphere Integration and Informix-4GL and WebSphere Studio/EGL Roadmap Interlock (Pre-Registration Now Closed)
- 16 July 2003: U2 Overview - Roadmap and New Features
- 14 August 2003: System Management Tools Roadmap and New Features (ISA, Server Studio JE, and DB2 Tools)
The U2 (UniVerse & UniData) webcast is one example of IIUG's response to its members' priorities: a significant number of respondents to the IIUG Member Priorities Survey conducted earlier this year asked IIUG to provide more content for the U2 user community.

IBM Webcast: The Technology of Enterprise Content Management
IBM has invited IIUG members to attend a webcast titled "The Technology of Enterprise Content Management: What is it and where is it going?" on 9 July 2003.
Learn about Enterprise Content Management (ECM) with Dr. Jim Reimer, an IBM Distinguished Engineer, a member of the IBM Academy, and the chief architect and strategist for IBM's Enterprise Content Management product offerings, at the next IBM Insight Exchange(tm) Technology webcast. Dr. Reimer will review factors motivating the transition to ECM, key features and properties of an ECM system, including its role in portal technologies and enterprise information integration, as well as how ECM integrates with application providers.

Informix Developer Zone: A Script to Monitor IDS Operation Mode
IIUG member, Jianing Fan, of the Chicago metropolitan area, produced an article that has been published in the Informix Developer Zone, titled "A Script to Monitor IDS Operation Mode".
The article's abstract reads as follows: "Need a way to check your database for assertion failures and down 'chunks'? Try this script. It provides a method for monitoring IDS operations."

IBM Testing New Design for developerWorks
IBM' developerWorks staff is testing a new site design and IIUG members can help. IBM is making changes to our Web site to provide a more cohesive, unified experience using IBM's technical resources. Their goals are to:
- Integrate the resources of the technology areas and developer domains, including Rational resources.
- Improve consistency and make information easier to find
- Communicate clearly the actions you can take to implement e-business on demand
Take a look at the redesigned prototype pages and tell IBM what you think. Just remember that all Informix and U2 products are listed under the DB2 area: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/prototype/.
IBM Announces WebSphere Commerce - Express and WebSphere MQ - Express
IBM announced on 25 June 2003 new WebSphere software for managing e-commerce and linking business processes that expands its portfolio of offerings specifically designed for medium businesses. IBM says its "Express" software makes it faster, easier and less expensive for medium businesses to create and manage a storefront on the Web, as well as share critical information across an IT system.
IBM also asserts that WebSphere Commerce - Express and WebSphere MQ - Express give medium-size companies a lower cost, easy-to-deploy and flexible, open-standards-based solution, while also providing the enterprise-class security and reliability to grow as business needs evolve.
IBM has communicated to IIUG that it intends to continue strengthening the integration of its WebSphere and Informix offerings.

Wikipedia Tells About Informix History
For all of you fans of Informix lore, you might find a visit to Wikipedia, "The Free Encyclopedia", to trigger some nostalgia. The thing actually lists "Informix" at http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informix.
The first paragraph provides a good overall perspective: "Informix is a relational database and for almost 20 years was also the name of the company who developed it. Informix DBMS was a development of the pioneering Ingres system that also led to Sybase and SQL Server, and was the #2 database system behind Oracle for some time in the 1990s".
If you want to learn or be remembered of Informix's history, this is a good place to visit.
Wikipedia describes itself as follows: "Wikipedia is a multilingual project to create a complete and accurate open content encyclopedia. We started on January 15, 2001 and are currently working on 135737 articles in the English version.". Their home page is http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page.
