IDS 9.4 UC2 Now Ready for Download

IBM's R&D team in Lenexa, Kansas, has made IDS 9.4 UC2 available to IIUG for its members to download. Linux and Windows versions are available immediately at http://www.iiug.org/members

With over 1200 downloads, IDS 9.4 has become the most successful download ever at the IIUG site.

Stuart Litel is IIUG President Elect for 2004

IIUG's ENews team caught up with Stuart Litel, recently elected IIUG President by the IIUG Board of Directors for the 2004 term, which will begin on 1 January.

Stuart had this to say to ENews: "The future of IIUG depends on the future of the Informix product line and we need to remember this. We need to learn to work with users, VARs, IBM and other Informix product vendors to successfully promote the status of these people in order to maintain the Informix product line and, with any luck, even see it grow. This should be the main goal of IIUG and its board, and as President it will be my main objective. We need to understand that IBM will not advertise Informix products, so please get over it. Just because Informix is not advertised, that does not mean it is dead, after all we all have a job using Informix, so how can it be dead? Informix has a very viable future and if we think it is dead, it will die, but if we continue to use and support the product, it will be around for a very long time, so the users need to be part of the solution, not the problem."

Stuart's biography and ENews profile are available at http://www.iiug.org/iiug/board.html#Litel.

IBM Offers IDS Upgrade Promotion in Canada and USA

IBM has notified IIUG's ENews team that in an effort to spur some new sales of IDS to current customers, it has extended a new limited time promotion for IDS.

The deal is for customers who acquire an upgrade license from IDS 7.x to IDS 9.4 (including the newly announced IDS on Linux for zSeries: http://www.ibm.com/software/data/informix/linux4zs/), or from IDS 7.x to the IBM Transaction Processing Gold Bundle, which includes IDS 9.4 and DB2. Customers meeting this requirement are eligible to receive a rebate on the purchase of additional new licenses.

The rebate amounts are highest through September 30, so you are encouraged to look at this offer sooner, rather than later. The offer is valid for customers in the United States and Canada from July 22 through December 30 of this year. For more information, visit http://www.ibm.com and enter IDS0722 in the "NavCode" window, located on the lower right side of the screen.

IBM has also told ENews that IDS promotions are also being considered for other countries.

Using the Onpladm Tool for Informix HPL

Make load and unload jobs easier to administer by using the onpladm tool. This article explains how to use this tool that gives the IDS administrator the flexibility to control all the facets of High-Performance Loader 'on the fly.'

Please find this article, submitted to IBM by John Carlson here.
